No matter how good the solutions you offer, if your audience doesn't quickly understand the value of what you're showing, they quickly tune out. 

For this reason, when presenting to prospects, OpenText has to deliver flexible demos tailored to the specific needs of each potential lead. They also need to continually adapt their demos to incorporate new software they add to their already impressive offering. 

“Our pre-sales guys would often have to apologise and schedule another meeting two weeks down the line to show features a client was interested in. This used to stagnate the sales process,” explained Neil Wilson, Senior Director of Technical Marketing at OpenText. “We do very large deals with a long gestation cycle,” he continued. “These involve a lot of demonstrations and proof of concept work before an organisation spends millions of dollars and puts pen to paper.” 

Neil had to rapidly develop a solution that consultants could use to showcase the right solution whenever they met with a client.

A collaborative business relationship

Neil reached out to Demodia with his problem, and within two months, they worked together to create a dynamic, online demonstration environment called TestDrive. “Demodia turns ideas on paper into possibilities quickly. This is gold to me. To be able to rapidly present a working prototype to leadership so they see the benefit from potential investment makes my job, as well as management’s, easier,” says Neil.

Smoother sales process through personalised demonstrations

OpenText’s solution consultants are now able to access and demo whatever the prospect requests immediately. This allows for a smoother sales process where potential leads are able to view personalised demonstrations within days instead of two weeks later, boosting OpenText’s engagement and prospect satisfaction. “Traditionally, OpenText has done an average job of lead nurturing. We have a healthy sales funnel, we have industry-leading technology, but we end up with a narrow drip of highly qualified leads. Demodia and TestDrive have helped us to change this,” said Neil. 

TestDrive itself is made up of over 100 virtual machines and showcases over 5000 different demonstration possibilities. “We’re creating the same environment in a demonstration that a customer would have within their own organisation when they deploy it. So, if that installation involves integration with SAP, the demonstration needs to mimic that along with all the tools the customer will use—like email, web servers, databases, analytics and specific aspects of their industry,” explained Neil. Yet, despite the complexity of TestDrive, Demodia has simplified the user experience so that it’s as easy to navigate and use as a regular website. 

While consultants are out in the field closing leads, Neil and his team monitor the analytics that TestDrive produces to see what is working and what isn’t. “I’m able to see which consultants are demonstrating which solution, how successful it is in different territories and which basic demonstrations or features of OpenText are the most effective for which industry—all within a few clicks”. This allows Neil and his team of 11 to manage and advise over 1000 consultants around the world on the best practices in order to increase sales and nurture prospects.
